The US embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, has warned people of potential security threats on Lombok, one of the central islands, during New Year’s celebrations.
The embassy placed an emergency message on its website on Thursday, advising people to be alert at public places, citing Senggigi Beach, a popular tourist site on the island. It does not give specifics.
Japan’s embassy also called on Japanese travelers and residents to remain vigilant.
The island of Lombok, east of Bali, has recently grown popular for its resorts used by foreign tourists.
In December, Indonesian authorities arrested more than 10 supporters of the Islamic State militant group for allegedly plotting bomb attacks in multiple locations in Jakarta and other places.
Around 150,000 police and military troops are mobilized in the country for tightened security during the holiday season.
